Pricey Vegetables
Pricey Vegetables
Seema doesn’t allow her husband to
purchase vegetables with a plea- “You don’t have any idea about the
quantity and type of vegetables are to be bought; I do know what items
to be made and accordingly I choose”.
Being a botany student; she also
advocates about her knowledge on so called nutrient values in it. Ravi
has got no answer on her justifications and therefore, he prefers to
keep quite.
On a usual evening she was walking in
the daily market to have something for the supper and some for next
day’s breakfast & lunch. Being a winter season and nearer to the
rural area, she was optimistic about low price and started ordering
various items.
While asking for the amount the vendor shown a bill of Rs.372/-.
Seema shouted at him- “I have never seen
this kind of semi perishable vegetables with such a high price tag, are
they becoming gold ornaments?”
Vendor-“I have also not thought of it, most of the vegetables are being sold in less margin.”
Seema- “Then what is making the vegetables pricy?”
Vendor- “The cheaper smartphones with low cost internet connectivity are the main reason behind this.”
Seema- “Are you crazy? Both aren’t two different things!”
Vendor (by pointing to his son)- “all
youngsters are busy on their smartphones and they aren’t helping us in
farming and other productive works as well. Once they will become
mature, they will end up with paying higher prices not only for
vegetables but also for other products and services.”
Seema stood still for some moment and then said- “I am having Rs.100 less, I will pay it later”.
The vendor laughed and shown a QR code
sticker on the bamboo pillar – “At least my son has enabled digital
payment system, you can pay the amount digitally”.
She scanned the code and paid the exact amount without bargain.
On the way back, she made up her mind to
limit the internet connectivity, as it doesn’t have any nutritional
value unlike in vegetables.
