Cycle Rickshaw
Cycle Rickshaw
From Bhubaneswar, the newly married
couple Ramesh-Niharika arrived at Puri and took a local bus towards the
temple. The bus stopped in a traffic post situated a KM before the
shrine. Niharika with a worried face asked Ramesh-“why the bus stopped
here?”, before Ramesh could able to start saying the conductor made a
typical high volume reply- “ without walking how could you get the
blessings”.
She murmured something upon the
conductor and left the bus quickly. Ramesh with a smiley face said-“let
us take a cycle rickshaw”, she was not in a mood to listen and started
walking towards the temple. He realized that, she was bit angry and it
was better to follow her with a down face.
Both of them had a nice darshan. However, it was bit hectic due to more crowd.
This time Niharika said, “ I couldn’t walk a step more, please hire an auto rickshaw “
Ramesh with a smiley face- “Are you sure?”
“Yes”- a low voice reply from Niharika.
They saw a cycle rickshaw from a
distance. Both came nearer and asked the person who was lying on the
seat. The person was very old and it was very difficult for him to wake
up, but he could able to manage to start the ride. Both get on it for
the ride.
After 2-3 hard coughs the old man tried
to pull the rickshaw but he couldn’t. The couple looked each other’s eye
and without having a talk, they decided to hop-off.
The old man looked them with a flushed face. Ramesh opened his wallet and given him Rs.20/- and asked him to keep it.
While walking away, they observed him trying to rest again.
They took an auto rickshaw to the bus
stand and while returning they were thinking only about the old man. He
said- “I could have given him more money instead of a mere Rs.20/-“. In
reply she only nodded her head.
Soon after arriving at Bhubaneswar, he
taken out his smartphone and started a ride on e-riding app. In no time a
cab arrived and they boarded in the car.
After some time of muteness, Niharika responded to his last question and said-
“We could have given him more.”
“Because
-Technology eases to book a ride smartly, but it squeezes the resources of innocent rickshaw pullers.”
