CHAPTER-I

“Prey”

5 AM

After an overnight rough road journey through an unevenly chilled Air-Conditioned bus, Rintu arrived in the new City for starting his career as a new joiner.
The strained blurry eyes glare out of the shops, here and there, watching intently, trying to focus, assessing potential prey, but it didn’t exist….
The aftereffect of leaving parents, friend circle & most significantly the not-so-fancy but own private room made the things worst to concentrate…
A nice aroma came from the nearby shop, it was coming from finely pouring of tea in the cupper saucepan and making irresistible to have one. The testy pure tea created a small change, smoothened the mind, recharged the body & enabled to reach at friend’s room.

9 AM

The afterbath body trembled of low temperature and trembled more…, the hart boated faster when the wet eyes couldn’t able to find the backpack.
Recently purchased laptop on EMI, a new set of dress, a costly perfume, personal diary everything had gone like a smoke. Felt like hammered, tortured and smashed for nothing.

10 AM to 5.30 PM

Unable to conjure…. where it left, at the bus or tea shop or in the auto rickshaw. Reached at the bus stop, enquired with the tea shop and nearby people, all in vain.

6 PM

Arrived at the friend’s home with a lowered chin, loose shoulder, dried throat and not even taken a single bite of food.

7.30 PM

The phone rang, a loud voiced person from the other side, it was like a grilling about my profile, “report at the city police station ASAP”; Bang! the phone got disconnected. Felt like done something wrong,
Arrived with a mix of fury and saddened face, sat tight after the bold instruction of the lady constable at the verandah. The body trembled again, sweats came out all over the body, had never been in a situation like this.
A smiley face with thin body came up, asked to enter into the Inspector’s Office.
Inspector mentioned, “Meet the Guy, his name is Rohan… he is here to give your bag.”  Felt amazed, shacked the hand…tightly hugged … mouth spoken spontaneously… “This kind of people still exists in the world, I have no words to say….”.

Next day @8.30 AM

Flashed with photo in the local newspaper….
…felt amazed again!  🙂
