Tech Jargons – We must be acquainted with

More or less we all are using some gadgets and also learned most of the technical jargons from our daily usage. Thanks to the advancement of technology and growing numbers of new terminologies thereupon. Therefore, we should at least have an idea on the nomenclatures that can help us to understand the latest string of letters.

The following are some of the major tech jargons, those can be helpful if we stumble upon to some discussion or when we are going to purchase a new gadget.

  • Resolution:  It is the pixels or simply dots that can be displayed on a device screen. The more the pixel, the higher the resolution and thus it will display the higher image quality.
  • Pixels per Inch (PPI): This depicts the number of pixels per inch on a display panel. For clearer and sharper images there should be more PPI count.
  • Full HD 1080p: It also called as FHD where it shows 1920 × 1080 px (1920 Vertical lines x 1080 Horizontal Lines).
  • 4K: It also called as Ultra High Definition (UHD), where 4000 pixels of resolution in horizontal lines. It refers to 2160p (3840 × 2160 px ).
  • Quad HD: This term describes a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which some of the latest smartphones offer. Also written as QHD, don't confuse it with qHD (quarter HD) which is only 960 x 540 and tends to be found on budget phones.
  • User Interface (UI): It is the advancement of Graphical User Interface (GUI) referred to the visual appearance of an app, Windows OS, Android OS etc.
  • Cloud: With the help of cloud computing we can store the data in various remote servers for accessibility across devices using internet; instead of storing it local computer. Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive etc. are some of the examples of cloud services.
  • Blog: Initially it was Web Log whereby a person can log about his/her day’s activities. Furtherance, the term blog has come out. Blog or blogging is helping most of us to have our own journal in World Wide Web.
  • Microblogging: This is a shorter version of blog through a social media site such as facebook or twitter.
  • # Tag & @ Tag: Since twitter only allows users up to 140 letters for blog update; therefore # & @ tags is required to refer an event/trend & about a person respectively. For e.g,  “Read my #blog on #Privacy in #InternetOfThings , @tapasblog” which means Please read my article on Privacy in Internet of things at tapasblog.blogspot.com.
  • Viral: The Term is often used when there is a marketing by an organization to popularize its product or services. Usually Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn etc. are being used for viral marketing.

  • Peer-to-peer (P2P): It is a file sharing system between the network participants. The peers share the portions of internet bandwidth, HDD storage and computer processing.
  • BitCoin: This is an alternative currency (cryptocurrency) and can be exchanged with other currency. Furthermore, it is a global digital currency which functions in open-source software
    with decentralized system instead of a central repository. Cryptocurrency wallet are being used to send and receive payments directly (without any intermediary) through peer-to-peer & the records are being maintained in a public distributed ledger known as blockchain.
  • Deep Web: The hidden web which is not indexed by search engines. Internet banking is an example of deep web.
  • Dark Web:  It is a part of deep web with no open access for general public; therefore, special credentials are required thereto. Friend-to-friend p2p is an example of dark web.
  • Bothie: It’s a new type of photography technique which allows the user to take photos through the smart phone’s front and back cameras. In other words it helps to take selfie and photo at one go.
  • NFC: It stands for Near Field Communication technique enables smartphones to communicate with each other within a short range through radio waves. It helps to share files, Bluetooth or WiFi pairing & wave and pay
  • Sync: It shorten term of synchronise; It is a method to keep data between devices via USB, WiFi and Bluetooth or Cloud connection.
  • USB Type-C:  It’s an updated USB form factor with 200% data transfer capability in contrast with the older one.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI):  It is a learning and intelligence process by a machine instead of a natural intelligence in human beings.
  • Virtual Reality (VR):  Simulation of realistic graphics through a computer technology using various devices (such as VR headset); for instance to produce accurate multimedia and other sensations.
  • YouTube 360: This allows to upload and view 360 multimedia files through a VR headset.
