The Chatia’s Nest and the Landlady

In the morning Geeta was working in her kitchen in a small town of India.
She stumbled upon a straw dropped on the cook-top; for instance, she realizes that, it dropped from the exhaust fan-vent. However, she ignored by thinking that might be due to air blow.
After a month or so, she and her husband Suresh were having coffee at the dining adjacent to the kitchen. Both of them heard a nice and cute twittering sound coming from the kitchen. Both of them thought that, it might be due to the sweet winter season; until Geeta realised that, there was a nest in the exhaust fan vent and conveyed the same to her husband.
Since then, she never put on the fan for the safety of the birds.
Every morning they continue to enjoy the sounds of new-born Chatias (Ashy Crowned Sparrow Lark) over their sips of coffee cups. During Diwali vacation both of them gone to their hometown.
Enjoying after 4-5 holidays, they came back and continued their normal day to day activities. On the very next day morning, there were no twittering around the dining. This was first noticed by Suresh, thereafter they both rushed to the kitchen to find out what happened?
Neither there were straws nor the nest. Which had little distressed the couple. Having that in their minds, both of them were busy in their day’s schedule.
Later during the day time, while Suresh had been to the office, the landlady Mili came to her and updated and told that, “As the Chatias were dropping straws and defecating in the area, I   have cleaned the nest, now you can blow the fan”. Geeta had got no words to put-forth, however she defended that, there was no issue & point to clean the nest.
In the evening Geeta had conveyed the discussions held with Suresh. She also asked that, “how come she had cleaned the nest in which there were 2-3 new-born birds”. On her curious question he replied with a reasonable answer, “The lady who can kill 4 fetus consecutively because they were girls, for her new-born Chatias were nothing”. The discussion stops there.

Recalling memory of our house in our native town Padampur Dist. Bargarh Odisha where sparrows ( Ghar Chatia ) had been building nests in the vacant & safe place of sky lights below the roof inside house and many off springs were born & brought up by their parents safely. We nor our children have caused harm to them. The moral: Do not be cruel to creatures who take your shelter. The lesson learnt from attitude of Landlady to get rid off sparrows & their off springs who can kill 4 fetus consecutively because they were girls, is that "Save Girl Child".
